Willmore Hotel

Willmore Hotel is a puzzle horror game. The prototype has about 20 minutes of gameplay, where you go around the hotel you are now trapped in. The viewpoint of the game in through the camera which the character holds, this leads to our special mechanic which makes it possible to put the camera down in certain places, thereby switching from first person view to a fixed third person view.

Development

The game was made by 6 people as the exam project for Game Development. We had two programmers: Kristian Witten Hjaltason and Christian Sunesen. Frederik Denning did all of the sound design and some puzzle and story design. Steffen Bruna Christophersen was project manager and supplementary artist. Leif-Bjørn Rasmussen was art director. I worked mainly as level designer.
In this small development everyone was part of the process to create the idea and work as game designers.
The team had created a longer story for the game, which spanned over 3 days and a bit of back-story for both the setting and the main character. Because of time constraints for the hand-in the prototype only features the last day.

The game can be downloaded here. Simply un-zip it and play the prototype
The camera and lighting effects are disabled from the start, but by pressing the F1-F12 keys you can enabled them, the most important one is on F8. (F10 doesn’t work correctly so skip it)

You look around with the mouse, move with wasd, interact with e, call inventory by pressing i, and place the camera and return to it by pressing r.
